Geological Information

Sweden is a very geologically diverse country, though many of the rocks there are sedimentary rocks. The Royal Palace of Stockholm Sweden is made of a sedimentary rock called sandstone. It is probably from the Dala Region.

Why is this Rock on the Wall?

Colonel McCormick chose the rock form the Royal palace Stockholm Sweden to represent the first amendment of the United States of America. Specifically the right to freedom of press. Being a man of the press, Colonel McCormick would have appreciated the struggle that the people of Sweden went through to achieve that right.

The Royal Palace of Stockholm Sweden was built by the Swedish architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger. Today it is used as an

 

administrative building by the king and his advisors and workers. It used to be used as a home as well, but that changed in the 1980's.
